True Love

Proverbs 19:22 “What a man desires is unfailing love.”  We all seek a love that does not fail us and hope to find a love that will not let us down.  No one wants to be in a relationship that is one sided.  Where can we find this “True Love” and what exactly is it?  We need not look any further than the Word of God to find the answers to these questions.

“True Love” lays down its life for others.  John 15:13 “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for others.”  We must be selfless if we want to walk in love.  Philippians 2:3-4 “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourself.  Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also the interests of others.”

“True Love” is sincere.  Romans 12:9 “Love must be sincere…”  Love can not be imitated, and should come from the center of who you are.  We must leave behind flirtatious actions and start practicing a love that is genuine and sincere.  1 John 3:18 “Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.”

“True Love” is revealed on the cross.  1 John 3:16 “This is how we know what love is: Jesus’ Christ laid down his life for us.”  Our desire for unfailing love can only be met by God whose perfect love was most clearly demonstrated to us by him sending his son to die on the cross.  If we do not understand that concept, we will spend our entire lives searching for “True Love” and will ultimately be searching in vain.  Let your search for “True Love” end at the cross.  Because of Jesus’ sacrifice, true and perfect love can be known, it can be experienced, and it has been demonstrated.
